For the past two weeks, my debut Jungian-themed poetry chapbook, Shadow's Reprieve, has been making its way across digital retailers with Draft2Digital. While ebooks are convenient and make reading easily accessible, I feel poetry is an art best suited for paper. There's something quite sacred about holding a poetry book, flipping through the pages, and letting the magic unfold.

It's like an inhale/exhale, when the reader and the paper breathe synchronously.

Because I am an independent author doing this entire book launch myself, I have opted to do things differently from the typical Amazon approach. A few years ago, I self-published a series of three children's books on Amazon without marketing knowledge. I was a newbie going at it alone. While I only sold a handful of books to family and friends, I took the opportunity and learned from it.

This time around, I am not jumping right into mass-market corporate distribution and electing to partner with a boutique printer to sell this first run of paperbacks directly to you!

Purchasing my book through Lulu equals a custom-printed copy on premium cream paper with a beautiful matte finish. Best of all, buying directly ensures a higher gross profit: 80% (Retail price minus print cost) as opposed to 50% with popular retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

A Map of the Psyche: The Pages

The inner work of self-discovery is something I deeply value. This poetry collection consists of fifteen poems that act as a personal map for your own unconscious. Divided into three parts, here are the movements:

  1. Part One: The Persona- Explores our social masks and the tension between who we project to the world versus who we really are.
  2. Part Two: The Shadow- A poetic descent into the hidden, repressed, and unacknowledged corners of our psyche to discover grace and a quiet reprieve.
  3. Part Three: The Self- The final journey toward individuation, soul integration, and wholeness.
This book features my custom-designed cover showcasing the Ouroboros- the snake devouring its own tail- symbolizing cyclical completion and the ultimate integration of the soul.

Black, grey, red, and white are my theme colors, representing the classic journey of alchemy and individuation.

How a Work Related Accident Enhanced My Literary Ambitions

I had many rooms to inspect, which wasn't extraordinary, just part of my job. While rushing up a flight of stairs, my foot landed wrong, resulting in instant knee pain, and within days, I  realized I'd be out of work for a while. I was forced to resign my position due to a medial meniscus tear. Months went by waiting for surgery, navigating unemployment, workers' comp, and much discomfort, but during it all, my literary ambitions returned. In the last post , I talked about how a work-related accident enhanced my literary ambitions. Today, I dive deeper into my spiritual presence, sharing a Vocal Media post so readers might understand me better. If someone had told me ten years ago that a freak accident was a sign to alter my life path, I would have clicked my tongue and shrugged it off with stubbornness.
