Poetry Reading & Analysis of Fantasy Fathoming from Shadow's Reprieve
A fantasy is the ultimate break from the everyday rat race of human living. Endless possibilities thrive within the mind: destination travel locations, alternate personalities, living situations, and experiences- the bigger, the better. Extreme is never a thing when one is willing to dream. The only requirement in the realm of invention is intention.
In my latest podcast episode, I continue reading from part 1: The Persona of my debut Jungian-themed poetry chapbook, Shadow's Reprieve.
Jung's persona archetype describes the face we show the world as opposed to our authentic self- our true face.
This week's poem, Fantasy Fathoming, describes a typical office workplace scene and an employee who dips off into a daydream. Perhaps not an ideal way to spend time meant for work, but a temporary escape breathes freedom into a situation that is essentially "sewn into" the fabric of everyday living, if you will.
Here is an excerpt from Fantasy Fathoming:
Currently
life may feel sewn in
precision incisions
wide-sighted wonder
is a dreamer’s task
take up the offer
explore every detail
fathom fantasy
like today’s–
like it’s your last
intentionally
reassessing goals
discovering
meaningful connections
to remote ideas
What about you?
Do you fantasize intentionally, or do you save those wide-eyed dreams for later, some other day, when life slows down?
But does life ever really slow down?
Is another time too far away?
Perhaps dreaming feels irresponsible or irrelevant to your life.
It isn't.
It's your opportunity to wander in your mind.
And when you choose to wander, everything else becomes a paper cutout.
Ponder that for a moment.
